Iolinda Aiello obtained her Degree in Chemistry from University of Calabria in 1994 discussing the thesis “Synthesis and characterization of organometallic monomers for the preparation of polymers with non linear optical properties”. In the same year, she received a Researcher Fellowship from INFM (National Institute for the Physics of Matter, the Department of Chemistry, the University of Calabria), receiving her PhD in Chemical Science in 1998, defending the doctoral thesis “Synthesis and characterization of azobenzene metal complexes for electrooptical devices”. From 1998 to 2002 she was recipient of several Post-Doctoral Fellowships from INFM and UNICAL as well as INSTM, the Italian Interuniversity Consortium on Materials Science and Technology. From 2002 to 2014, she has been Researcher of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Calabria. Since December 2014 she is Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies of the University of Calabria.She is member of the Doctorate Programme in Science and Physics, Chemical and of Materials Technologies and is an active member of the Centro di Eccellenza MIUR “CEMIF.CAL” and of the Calabria branch of the INSTM Reference Centre,LaSCaMM-Lab (Laboratory for the Synthesis and Characterisation of Molecular Materials based on organometallic structures). Her main research interests regard the design, synthesis and characterization of coordination and organometallic complexes (metallomesogens, photorefractive materials and luminescent metal compounds)and a complete understanding of their structure-properties relationship for application in OLEDs and in the development of electro-optical devices. In recent times is also working on the preparation of metallogels.Recently, the research activities of Prof. Aiello is directed towards the preparation of mesoporous materials containing metal complexes, which can be used in photovoltaic devices as the DSSC (Dye Sensitized Solar Cells) or the HSSSC (Hybrid Solid StateSolar Cells). In recent times is also working on the preparation of metallogels.Her research has appeared in more than 65 articles in ISI peer-reviewed scientific journals and in more than 150 conference communications.
