MASTER’S DEGREE IN STATISTICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE FOR DECISIONS AND MARKET ANALYSIS

The Master’s Degree in Statistics and Computer Science for Decisions and Market Analysis is the natural complementation of the educational training for students coming from a three-year Bachelor’s Degree in statistical disciplines who want to deepen the statistical methodology and computer science skills to be applied in marketing and market analysis. This application focus makes this course of study interesting also for graduates from other Bachelor’s Degrees (Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics and Business Administration), who are endowed with a sound basic theoretical knowledge and a “quantitative” mindset, and willing to seek for a correct balance between a methodological rigor of the previous course and potential application scopes.

The Master’s Degree aims to train Data Scientists, i.e. experts with skills, knowledge and creativity capable of operating in all those sectors where decisions need to be made in conditions of uncertainty. In particular, the Master’s Degree aims at training professionals with an advanced knowledge of statistical methodology and computer science tools, for managing and processing big data to support the decision-making process of institutions, organizations and companies, as well as policy makers. The Master’s Degree also gives the basis for deepening business processes and computer science skills, related to the management and analysis of large databases from different sources. Finally, the training allows graduates to assist business managers in identifying solutions and strategies in marketing policies for goods and services.

In order to develop students’ adequate operational skills, problem solving aptitudes and autonomy in carrying out analyses, the theoretical competencies acquired during lessons are integrated, supported and experimented through a thorough workshop activity based on the exploitation of statistical and computer science software aimed at the development, study and analysis of specific real or simulated cases.

The plan of study allows students to acquire knowledge of statistical methodologies for data modelling, advanced statistical methods and machine learning techniques for marketing research and customer satisfaction, statistical sampling and statistical methods for forecasting. Moreover, students will acquire computer science skills for the planning and management of data warehouse and the use of algorithms for knowledge discovery, and the main models and tools for workflow management, analysis and mining.
