BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN STATISTICS FOR BUSINESS

BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN STATISTICS FOR BUSINESS

The Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics for Business aims at training experts in Statistics and Computer Science, i.e. professionals characterized by a sound knowledge of basic statistics methodology and of computer science tools, supported by operational skills and practical abilities that are fundamental for the statistical management of large sets of data backing the decision-making processes of institutions, organizations, companies and policy makers. Moreover, the specific methodological training and the multidisciplinary nature of the knowledge acquired by students enable them to become statistical experts in social, demographic and economic operational fields.

The plan of study is characterized by a set of core subjects in the field of Statistics/Mathematics/Probability (Statistics, Calculus and Geometry, Probability and Statistical Inference, Economic Statistics, Multivariate Data Analysis, Social Research Methodology and Operations Research) aiming at developing students’ methodological accuracy and autonomous statistical reasoning. In addition, students will acquire transversal and multidisciplinary skills in the field of Computer Science (Fundamentals of Computer Science, Algorithms and Databases), and of Business and Economics (Business Economics, Economics and Business Management, Marketing, Micro- and Macro-Economics) that are fundamental in order to master both the main techniques of database construction, update and management, and the principles of economic and accounting management of business processes. Finally, students’ education is integrated through English language course at B2 level, seminars, workshops and tutorials about problem-solving through statistical software, and the study and analysis of specific real or simulated cases provided by business managers and representatives.

Professional opportunities for graduates broadly include working as data analysts in companies as well as in the official statistics services. In particular, graduates have skills for the collection, management and analysis of data, as well as for the interpretation of results. Moreover, they have computer science expertise in building, managing and querying databases. They can support operators, experimental research experts and managers in pursuing their professional objectives, as they know both methodological and operational tools to design surveys and collect data, manage and analyse databases, control the quality of data, carry out analyses in the socio-economic and business fields, build statistical indices and monitor their variations (over time and space).

Moreover, the education provision allows graduates to complete their training by enrolling in a Master’s Degree in Statistics grouping, such as the Master’s Degree in Statistics and Computer Science for Decisions and Market Analysis at Unical DESF Department, or diversify their professional profiles referring to the following Master’s Degrees: Economics, Business Economics, Finance and Computer Science.
