   RESEARCH INTERESTS

  - Morpho-functional adaptations – Physiological and ultrastructural analysis of insect sense organs and gland secretions referred to prey-predator relationship.

 - Ecological immunology – Individual variation of immune defences to study how insects defend themselves against infection and how immunity is intertwined with other components of host physiology. Developmental and sex related variations in insect immune responses.

 - Environmental monitoring – Effects of environmental pollutants such as heavy metals and pesticides on immune response variations and Malpighian tubules ultrastructure of beneficial insects (beetles and honeybees) living in agroecosystems.
A great variety of methods was employed including light and electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), electrophysiology, chemical and biochemical analyses and behavioural observations
