RESEARCH INTERESTS |
Main research topics - Species traits for evaluation of ecosystems disturbance. Species traits show the morpho-physiological adaptations of invertebrates to natural vs disturbed ecosystems. They are weighted in terms of number of species and number of individuals to get an index of landscape conservation, which is applied to GIS driven geographical models. This approach is based on ground beetles sampling by means of pitfall traps. Keywords : carabidae, evaluation for conservation, fauna, GIS, ecological indicators, species traits - Long term field study for global change monitoring. The presence of invertebrates in so-called extreme environments is the result of their adaptation to extreme ecological factors. Such extreme species can be used as early warning of climate change, given that they must be of known taxonomy and easy to be sampled. Carabid beetles are ideal ecological indicators, the population viable status of particular cold-adapted species is monitored with a long term sampling research in the Dolomites. -Keywords: extreme environments, global change, ground beetles, environmental monitoring
