research fields

Her research activity started with  structural and conformational studies of small molecules dissolved in lyotropic liquid crystals by means of NMR techniques (LICRY-NMR Analisys). An another field of her scientific interests addressed the optimization of new experimental set up for application of 2H-NMR techniques in presence of electric fields. Subsequently, she applied this innovative methodology to structural studies of thermotropic liquid crystals dispersed in microcavities of polymer matrices. Successively, her main expertise concerned the development of original liquid crystalline composites to fabricate mono- and bi-functional innovative materials for photo- and elettro-optical applications. She also experienced in preparation and functionalisation of hydrogels, pickering emulsion and inclusion complexes for pharmaceutical and environmental applications. Furthermore, she developed strong skills in instrumentation, from optics and scattering techniques to investigate soft matter systems (nematic and solid stabilised emulsions) for health, food and environment applications.

The recent research activities can be briefly summarised as follows:

Study of the electro-optical, electrochromic, photo-chromic and photo-electrochromic properties of polymeric films and liquid crystal dispersions in monomeric matrices (Emulsions Dispersed Liquid Crystals) and in polymeric matrices (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystals).

Development and applications of monofunctional and bifunctional EDLC and PDLC systems for devices operating in direct mode and reverse mode.

Development, characterization and applications of Hydrogels and Pickering Emulsions as Smart Pollutant Recovery Systems.

Study of the chemical-physical properties of Pickering emulsions responsive to external stimuli for the controlled release of drugs.

Development, characterization and applications of natural food-grade Pickering Particles.

Applications of Dynamic Light Scattering techniques in membrane-assisted crystallization processes
