professional experience

From 14.11.2002 to 01.07.2003: Research Fellow of European Union at “Centre for Bioactivity Screening of Natural Products”, Pharmacognosy Research Laboratories, King’s College London (UK). During this period, she work on the study of bioactivity of several natural products with particular reference for plant food.

From 01.08.2004 to 01.10.2004 and from 27.09.2006 to 08.10.2006: Visiting Research Assistants at Centre for Bioactivity Screening of Natural Products, Pharmacognosy Research Laboratories del King’s College di London (UK). During this period, she work on the study of chemical characterization of plant food derived compounds.

From 15.04.2008 to 15.06.2008: Visiting Assistant Professor at Area di Industrie e tecnologie Alimentari del Dipartimento di Scienze degli alimenti dell’Università Politecnica delle Marche (Ancona, Italy). During this period of stage, she deepen the study on the impact of food processing.

From 11.8.06 to 19.12.2008: Post-Doc position in Pharmaceutical Biology (SSD BIO/15) at Faculty of Pharmacy, UNICAL. During this period she work on the chemistry and bioactivity of Citrus medica cv Diamante.

From 19.12.2008 to 30-12-2017: Assistant Professor in Food Science Technology (SSD AGR/15) at Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Sciences, UNICAL;

In 2011: Visiting Assistant Professor at School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, University College of Cork (Ireland).

From 30.12.2017-today Associate Professor in Food Science Technology (SSD AGR/15) at Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Sciences, UNICAL;

Prof. Loizzo is Member of the Editorial Board of Foods, Annals of Nutrition and Food Science, Food Science & Nutrition Research, Antioxidants, Molecules (section Fragrances and Flavors).

Prof. M.R. Prof. Loizzo works in the field of Food Science Technology. The principal research topic are:

Analysis of the relationships between the quality of raw materials, food process, storage conditions;

Development of high resolution extraction, purification and chromatography/ mass spectrometry methods for food components identifications;

Identification of chemical markers for the authentication and quality of food;

Study of antioxidant activity in foods and drinks and their health impact;

Study of the inhibition of the enzymatic browning;

Study of the inhibition of enzymes responsible for carbohydrates digestion and lipogenesis for the identification of functional foods/ingredients to be used in special categories of consumers;

Valorisation of food industry by-products for functional foods design and application in nutraceutical products;

Analysis for chemical, sensorial characterization and evaluation of functional properties of food;

Study of the relationships between chemical composition and sensory perception of food and beverages through multivariate statistical analysis.
