research fields

Development of functional biomaterials for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.

Main research interests:

1) Hybrid Materials. Synthesis and characterization of composites nanocarriers based on polymeric materials and Carbon Nanotubes or Graphene Oxide with anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. Synthesis of hybrid hydrogels for the controlled release of bioactive agents in response to temperature, electric and magnetic fields.

2) Functional polymers for biomedical applications. Conjugation of bioactive molecules (e.g. anticancer, antioxidant, antimicrobial) to natural polymers via innovative coupling reactions and enzyme catalysis, with the obtainment of functional materials for the treatment of different diseased, including degenerative diseases, infections, and cancer.

3) Stimuli Responsive Hydrogels. Synthesis of hydrophilic hydrogels and nanogels for the controlled release of drugs and genes in response to external stimuli such as temperature, pH, electric, and magnetic fields.
