Research themes

- Molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neuronal degeneration and death (experimental neuroAIDS; brain ischemia, glaucoma, seizure-related brain damage).

- Development in vitro and in vivo of experimental models of neuronal death for testing drugs and natural products (either of animal, i.e. dendrotoxins, and vegetal origin, i.t. tetanus toxin, essential oil of bergamot etc.) for their neurotoxic and neuroprotective profile.

- Mechanisms underlying neuropathic pain and identification of molecular and cellular targets for the development of novel and more efficacious drugs.
