Il corso fornisce le basi per la conoscenza delle caratteristiche, distribuzione geografica e utilizzo delle principali rocce utilizzate in ingegneria civile e industriale. Tra gli argomenti trattati molto risalto è dato ai metodi di escavazione e lavorazione in relazione alla divisibilità naturale delle rocce stesse.
Alla fine del corso lo studente sarà in grado di conoscere le più importanti rocce industriali italiane ed estere, le loro caratteristiche, uso e distribuzione. Inoltre lo studente sarà in grado di riconoscere macroscopicamente le principali rocce impiegate nell’ingegneria civile.
Classificazione delle georisorse e loro distribuzione in relazione ai processi geodinamici. Le rocce industriali - magmatiche metamorfiche e sedimentarie in Italia: distribuzione geografica, utilizzo. Colore delle rocce. Metodi di estrazione e lavorazione dei materiali lapidei. Esempi di rocce industriali calabresi: le Rocce verdi (Ofioliti).

The course provides the foundation for the knowledge of the characteristics, geographical distribution, and use of the main rocks used in civil and industrial engineering. Topics covered much emphasis is given to the methods of excavation, processing and use in relation to the nature of the rocks themselves.
