Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics and Managerial Decisions.
The Ph.D. in Economics and Managerial Decisions is jointly promoted by the Department of Economics, Statistics and Finance "Giovanni Anania" and by the Department of Business and Law of the University of Calabria.
The purpose of the PhD course is to provide to its students the most advanced skills to become a scholar – in the Economics or in the Business field -, to be able to undertake an academic career in University, or to work as researcher in Research Centers, in the Public Administration, in managerial positions in private firms.
The PhD in Economic and Business Sciences is part of the third-level teaching activities offered by the University of Calabria.
For the present three-year term, the Coordinator of the PhD will be Prof. Vincenzo Scoppa, belonging to the Department of Economics, Statistics and Finance "Giovanni Anania". He is an economist and his CV can be found here.

Course Description and Aims
The PhD in Economic and Business aims to develop advanced skills in both theoretical and applied in the fields of Economic, Business, Statistics and Finance.
These skills can be applied in different areas such as: Universities, Research Centers in Economics, Business, Statistics and Finance, in national and international institutions, public organizations, private companies and non-profit organizations.
The aim of the PhD course is to offer teaching activities, seminars and research activities such as to comply with the international standards in the disciplines of reference. The international reference of the course is a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics and Managerial Decisions.
The articulation of the courses provided is functional to two areas of study and research: i) Economic Sciences; ii) Corporate and Managerial Decisions.
The training program is divided by course year. In the first year most of the time of Ph.D students will be devoted to attend Advanced Courses and seminars.
In the second and third year the activities of the PhD students are mainly dedicated to the preparation and drafting of the thesis.
A period of study of PhD students abroad is strongly encouraged in qualified universities and international research centers.
The presentation of intermediate results through seminars and workshops is encouraged.
The research results obtained by the PhD students must be in a format that allows scientific publications in qualified and prestigious international Journals.

Admission and fellowships
The Ph.D. Program in the latest years had about 6 positions each year and a fellowship is awarded for each position. Typically, one or two fellowships are reserved for abroad students (that is, students obtaining a Degree outside Italy). The admission to the PhD Program is conditional upon passing a public competition. The selection procedure starts every year, with a Call for Applications (“Bando di Ammissione”) published around August on the “Gazzetta Ufficiale” (Official Gazette), and on the Unical website. The examination is scheduled typically on September.
